The Huntley Historical Society is proud to have Dr. John Burkey, School Superintendent of Consolidated School District 158, as their featured speaker on Tuesday, April 7th, 6:30 p.m., Multi-Purpose Room/Willow, Huntley Park District, Cosman Center. Everyone (including students) is invited to attend this unique and interesting program which is free and open to the public.
One of the most fascinating aspects of studying history is the examination of how events might have changed had one event happened differently. These are the "what ifs" of history. For example, what if Abraham Lincoln had not been assassinated in 1865? How might Reconstruction have played out differently? How might race relations over the next 150 years have been different. Would we still even be one country today?
For Dr. Burkey's presentation, he is going to take a much more modern event--one that happened on one single day in the 1980's. On the surface this event might seem inconsequential today; yet, he will trace and discuss how subsequent events, and our lives today, might be radically different had this one event occurred differently. This event will remain a mystery until the presentation which will be interactive with audience discussion and participation.
